How the WordPress theme detector works
Every WordPress site loads its stylesheets and scripts from a folder like /wp-content/themes/theme-name/. Our tool fetches the page exactly like your browser does, finds those references, and then reads the theme’s style.css header — the file where every WordPress theme declares its name, author and version. No login, no installation, nothing touches the site being checked.
If the site uses a child theme, we follow the trail to the parent theme too, so you always learn what the design is really built on. We also list well-known plugins we can see in the source, like Elementor, WooCommerce or Slider Revolution.
When the detector can’t identify a theme
A small number of sites hide their theme. Some use white-label security plugins that rename the wp-content folders, some block automated requests entirely, and some aren’t WordPress at all. In those cases we’ll tell you honestly what we found instead of guessing.

How can I find out what WordPress theme a site is using?
Paste the site’s URL into the detector at the top of this page. It reads the site’s public HTML, finds the active theme folder under /wp-content/themes/, and pulls the theme’s name, author and version from its style.css file. The whole check takes a few seconds.
Can a theme detector identify child themes?
Yes. If the detected theme’s style.css declares a Template, it is a child theme — the detector then also fetches the parent theme’s details, so you see both the child theme and the framework it is built on.
Why does the detector say the theme is hidden?
Some sites rename their wp-content folders with white-label plugins, block bots with a firewall, or strip theme headers from style.css. The detector can still often confirm the site runs WordPress, but the theme name itself stays hidden.
Does the detector work on Shopify or Wix sites?
No — this tool is specific to WordPress. For non-WordPress sites it will tell you which platform the site’s generator tag declares, if one is present, but it cannot identify Shopify or Wix templates.
Is it legal to check what theme a website uses?
Yes. The detector only reads files the site already serves publicly to every visitor’s browser — the same HTML and CSS you could view yourself with ‘View source’. It does not log in, probe, or bypass anything.
