Is the JobEngine theme still a good choice for a job board?

For a simple paid job board, it can be. JobEngine charges employers for job posts and resume access, and you run most of the site from the front end. The theme costs $89, or $179 with all extensions. However, its last update in the official changelog is v2.10.2 from July 6, 2023, so check that the plugins you need still work before you buy.

Best for: site owners who want a focused job board that earns from paid and featured job posts, without a page builder

JobEngine is a job board WordPress theme from EngineThemes. It turns a WordPress site into a job listings website where employers pay to post jobs and job seekers apply online. The JobEngine theme costs $89 for unlimited websites. Its last update was in July 2023, although the live demo runs on WordPress 7.0.

A job board WordPress theme built to make money

JobEngine puts monetization first. You set single or premium plans for job posts, and featured jobs sit above the normal ones. Jobs also expire on their own after the deadline you set. In addition, employers can buy packages to view resumes, and you can switch that off at any time.

Free plans are possible too, so you can attract the first employers and still limit how much they post. Finally, the widget and sidebar system gives you ad spaces in several positions. As a result, a board can earn from posts, featured listings, resume access and ads at the same time.

Posting and finding jobs with JobEngine

To start, employers post a job in four steps. They log in, click “Post a Job” and follow the flow. Before posting, each employer chooses whether applications arrive on the site or by email. Moreover, employers get a private space to manage their posted jobs.

Meanwhile, job seekers search by keyword and location, then filter results without a page reload. A “Load more” button adds results to the same page. They can also share jobs on social networks and build a resume profile. In addition, the demo shows a job map, contract types and job categories on the home page.

Front-end editing and a mobile version

Above all, JobEngine lets you run most of the site from the front end. For instance, you publish and edit content without opening the dashboard, and the style customizer changes colors and appearance on the home page. The theme also ships a dedicated mobile version with its own logo setting, instead of only shrinking the desktop layout.

For multilingual boards, the built-in translator changes theme text, and WPML adds more languages. Besides that, you can set your own currency. Finally, you can install it in about five minutes: import the sample data and the wizard guides you.

JobEngine extensions and pricing

First, the Single Theme licence costs $89. It covers unlimited websites, basic child themes, the PSD files, documentation, and 12 months of updates and support. The Standard package adds four popular JobEngine extensions for $139, down from $170. Meanwhile, the Full Package includes all JE extensions for $179, down from $270.

However, several features depend on those extensions. For example, JE Job Alert sends email alerts for new jobs, and JE Job Map adds the map. JE Custom Fields adds fields to the posting form, and the Stripe and Paymill gateways are extensions too. So price the extensions in before you compare JobEngine with other job board themes.

Is the JobEngine theme still updated?

Not recently. The newest JobEngine entry in the EngineThemes changelog is version 2.10.2 from July 6, 2023, more than three years ago. That release replaced AddThis with default Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn share links, and it removed the file requirement from the application form. However, the live demo still runs 2.10.2 on WordPress 7.0, so the theme loads on current WordPress. Therefore, test the extensions you need on a staging copy first.
